Ben Roethlisberger signs 5 year Steelers Deal

Ben Roethlisberger signs new 5 year deal.

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Friday they’ve signed their franchise quarterback through the 2019 season. His previous contract was set to expire following the 2015 season.

Roethlisberger, 33, was due $11.6 million in the last year of the six-year extension he signed in March 2008 and had renegotiated three times since.

As with those renegotiations, the extension announced Friday likely frees up cap space. Roethlisberger’s scheduled cap number for 2015 had been $18.395 million.

He’s entering his 12th season as the Steelers’ quarterback and had one of his best statistical years in 2014, when he completed 67.1% of his passes for a career-high and league-leading 4,952 yards and 32 touchdowns with nine interceptions and a 103.3 rating.

The Steelers also announced Friday they’d signed veteran running back DeAngelo Williams to a two-year contract.
