{"id":4390,"date":"2018-05-25T14:05:00","date_gmt":"2018-05-25T14:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.openbusinesscouncil.org\/?p=4390"},"modified":"2022-05-04T21:38:01","modified_gmt":"2022-05-04T21:38:01","slug":"gender-inequality-female-entrepreneurs-receive-half-men-funding-since-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.footballthink.com\/gender-inequality-female-entrepreneurs-receive-half-men-funding-since-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Gender Inequality: Female Entrepreneurs Receive Half than Men In Funding Since 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_4393\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4393\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-4393\" src=\"https:\/\/www.openbusinesscouncil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/gender-inequality-funding.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"349\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.footballthink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/gender-inequality-funding.png 1400w, https:\/\/www.footballthink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/gender-inequality-funding-300x131.png 300w, https:\/\/www.footballthink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/gender-inequality-funding-768x335.png 768w, https:\/\/www.footballthink.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/gender-inequality-funding-1024x447.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4393\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gender Inequality: Female Entrepreneurs Receive Half than Men In Funding Since 2016<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Data from a small business and startup finance provider has revealed that since 2016, female entrepreneurs received just 44p for every \u00a31 awarded to men in startup and small business funding.<br \/>\nThat\u2019s despite women having a higher application approval rate than men when applying for business finance.<\/p>\n<p>The shortfall is due to women entrepreneurs applying in significantly lower numbers and asking for \u00a318,000 less on average, according to analysts at <a href=\"https:\/\/accesscommercialfinance.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en-GB&amp;q=https:\/\/accesscommercialfinance.com\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1527334024765000&amp;usg=AFQjCNElJWAokT1H2LE3ghYCUN-gijHopw\">Access Commercial Finance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the key points that can be withdrawn from the survey:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Since 2016, women received 44 pence of business funding for every \u00a31 awarded to men<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Researchers say this is because women ask for \u00a318,000 less than men on average when applying for startup funding<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Women who do apply for funding have an 18% higher success rate than men<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Small business finance consultant says men are receiving the majority of funding due to sheer volume of applications, even though women-led business are \u201cmore fundable\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The study by<a href=\"https:\/\/accesscommercialfinance.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en-GB&amp;q=https:\/\/accesscommercialfinance.com\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1527334024765000&amp;usg=AFQjCNElJWAokT1H2LE3ghYCUN-gijHopw\"> Access Commercial Finance<\/a> found that only 16% of applications received since July 2016 were submitted by women.<\/p>\n<p>The firm handled 833 applications in total during that time period, but only 135 of those applications came from women. Men made 698 applications for funding during the same period.<\/p>\n<p>However, the research showed that the women who did apply for funding had a success rate 18% higher than men. 13% of applications from women were successful, compared to 11% from men.<\/p>\n<p>Not only are women less likely to apply for funding than men, they also ask for less money on average when they are do apply.<\/p>\n<p>Based on applications where the full amount applied for was awarded, women received \u00a322,162 each &#8211; \u00a328,476 less than men, who received \u00a350,638 each on average. This works out to 44p for every \u00a31 awarded to men.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, due to men making 84% of the funding applications, they received the vast majority of funding awarded &#8211; \u00a34,051,052 in total. Women received \u00a3332,437.<\/p>\n<p>Matt Haycox, consultant at Access Commercial Finance, says:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis data shows us that women are on average either better at putting together a funding proposal for their small businesses, or they just have more fundable businesses. Either way, it\u2019s potentially good news for women-owned businesses and startups.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut given the low application rate and low funding request amount for women, men are still getting most of the cash due to sheer volume of applications.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope our data gives any woman considering applying for business funding the confidence to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Data from a small business and startup finance provider has revealed that since 2016, female entrepreneurs received just 44p for every \u00a31 awarded to men in startup and small business funding.
