With many businesses forced to temporarily close for a few months earlier in the year, their finances have severely been impacted. So much so that they have had to take the drastic decision of making some of their employees redundant to ease cash-flow.

•‘Best’ is the buzzword that hiring managers most hate seeing on CVs (76%)

•71% are not a fan of applicants using the world ‘motivated’ on CVs

•With over 4,000 appearances each on the CVs analysed, over 50% would rather candidates sway away from words such as ‘passionate’ (57%) and ‘excellent’ (54%) to highlight their skills/suitability

•Interestingly, 43% of employers would prefer it if candidates didn’t use the cliché‘hardworking’ to describe their work ethic

Those made redundant will undoubtedly be itching to get back into the job market and to do so, will be using their curriculum vitae (CV) to signal their credentials to prospective employers. Their eagerness to get back into work exemplified by an astonishing 9,900 Google searches* for ‘CV writing’ in the UK last month (June 2020).

To help candidates increase their employability prospects, Resume.io consulted 562 hiring managers* across several popular industries in the UK, to discover the commonly used words on CVs they most dislike seeing.

Resume.io found that best’ is the word that employers most hateseeing on a CV, with 76% agreeing. The word indicates a strong ego and sense of self-importance.

71% of hiring managers are not a fan of candidates using the word motivated’ on their CV. With nearly 4,000 uses of the word on CVs from Resume.io’s database, applicants might fare better with alternative options such as driven or goal oriented.

‘Dedicated’ (69%) and proven’ (65%) are other words that a significant proportion of employers disapprove of on CVs.

Given that a lot of individuals (4,207) are crediting some of their skills and accolades as excellent’, they might be better off not doing so – as 1 in 2 (54%) hiring managers don’t look too fondly at the adjective on a CV.

On the other end, 43% of employers would prefer it if candidates didn’t use the cliché hardworking’ to define their work ethic.

Resume.io top tips on how to cut down buzzword usage on CVs

Don’t overstate

It is a competitive job market, so you might feel the need to describe your skills better than they are. But saying you are ‘great’ at a skill when you are only at a ‘good’ level is only going to cause you grief. Especially, if you get a job and your employer sees you’re not as great as you claimed to be.

Don’t be over-reliant on adjectives

Having a text-heavy CV does not automatically make you a better candidate, it’s all about quality over quantity. So, don’t feel the need to pack your CV with as many flattering adjectives as possible. Use them where you think they will truly give you a competitive advantage.

Give examples of achievements

It’s easy just to list a ton of skills without any evidence and in doing so, an employer might wonder if you are just making it up. So, instead of pinning all your hopes on buzzwords to solely boost your skills, use results and achievements from past professional and personal experiences to showcase those ‘excellent communication skills’, ‘proven sales record’ and ‘great teamworking skills’.

Estimation Nation: 47% Of Brits Unaware Of What’s Covered By Their Contents Insurance

Clueless brits are oblivious to the contents of their home, with nearly half unaware of most of the items covered by their contents insurance.

But it comes as no surprise that brits aren’t aware of what’s in their own home, with 46% admitting that they keep no pictures or receipts of their valuable items. The research from Money Expert revealed that only 43% update their contents insurance to include new valuable items when they buy them.

Top 5 items included on contents insurance policy

With Brits underestimating the value of their prized possessions (61%), they could find themselves out-of-pocket in the event of a claim. 17% of Brits have been burgled or broken into and over a quarter (28%) have needed to make a claim on their contents’ insurance.

Safety conscious homeowners around the country are now making sure they take extra measures to protect their belongings to avoid making a claim on their home insurance, but some are still taking risks when it comes to their homes’ security.

Key Findings

  • Nearly half keep no receipts or pictures of valuables
  • 43% update their contents insurance to include new valuable items when they buy them
  • 61% underestimate their prized possessions

Over two fifths (42%) of East Midlands and North West residents can sleep easier knowing they have an alarm installed, whereas it’s restless nights for the 85% of East Anglia residents without one. Londoners have taken extra measures to beef up their security, with 15% getting a guard dog and 14% installing a video doorbell.

The findings sparked a warning from Jason Smith, boss of Money Expert. He said: “It’s vital that people know the true worth of what they have in their homes. Taking a guess on the value of your contents could cost you money in the long run if you must make a claim and insurers think you are under insured. This can result in you receiving a pay-out that is much lower than the value of your items.

“Homeowners and even those who rent, need to be careful of under-estimating the value of what’s in their home. It could easily bite them on the backside if they have a burglary or a fire and they find they’re not properly covered.”

The Money Saving Strategies of Rich People

Money makes the world go around. Although many people will tell you that money doesn’t make you happy, it does help you to live the life that you’ve always wanted. Unfortunately, managing cash is often easier said than done. Countless people struggle when it comes to balancing their personal expenses with bills and invoices each month.

However, there are people out there that are living the good life. While obviously, a good income helps them to live that life a little bit easier, most rich people will tell you that they accomplish their goals because they’re careful with their money. They know how much they have to spend each month and they don’t go over their budget. Here are some of the strategies that rich people swear by.

1. The 24-Hour Rule

Millionaires everywhere swear by using the 24-hour rule when making their purchasing decisions. Essentially, rather than just buying something as soon as you decide you want it, you give yourself a full day before you take that item to the checkout. The 24-hour rule gives you a chance to figure out whether you’re spending your money wisely, or whether you’re buying something on impulse because that’s what a marketing campaign has told you to do. You can always treat yourself after 24 hours if you think it’s the right decision.

2. Using an All-Cash Diet

The fact that you can pay for just about anything today using a piece of plastic or your smartphone means that most of us rarely carry cash anymore. However, people who spend strategically – such as the rich people of the world often say that they have an easier time-saving money if they use cash instead of a card. This is particularly true for those smaller day-to-day purchases. Using cash helps you to get back in touch with the true value of money.

4. Setting a Budget and Sticking to It

As simple as it sounds, sometimes just giving yourself a spending strategy is enough to make sure that you’re more likely to achieve your goals. Take a look at your income and expenditure and make sure that you don’t spend more than you earn. It’s that straightforward. Just make sure you check on the details of your budget regularly and adjust when you need to.

5. Invest in yourself

Saving money doesn’t have to mean making yourself miserable by continually cutting down on the things you enjoy. However, you should be focusing more aggressively on investing in yourself and what could help you to get things done in the future. While you might be worried about taking out a new loan for your business if it’s going to make you happier and more financially independent in the long-run, it’s often a good idea.

Bills and Savings First

5. Bills and Savings First

What’s the first thing that you do when you get a bonus at work? If the answer is “splurge on something special,” then you might not be on the right track. One of the strategies that rich people use to keep themselves wealthy is to put bills and savings first. This means that they deal with essential expenses first, then follow up by placing money in their savings accounts. If they have any extra cash left over at the end of the day, then they can look into buying something for themselves afterward. Remember that you’re the only person who’s going to look after your present and your future.

6. Plan for Annual Sales

When the time does come to spend some extra cash on things that you both want and need, make sure that you’re taking advantage of the sales. If you know that you need a bunch of things, and it’s close to black Friday, create a list of all the items that you want to buy and look for the best deals you can find on that day. This will keep you focused when you’re shopping, and it will also encourage you to hold onto your money until you can get more for your cash.

7. Focus on the Little Things

Finally, rich people know that the biggest accomplishments often start with a few simple changes. You don’t need to save $50 a day to become rich – although it helps. Instead, you just need to get into the habit of saving whenever and wherever you can. Even if this just means collecting some extra change in a pot and using what you save to make investments – every little helps.

EnergyKillBill, World’s First API-Driven Commercial Energy App Launches in Bristol

An innovative new energy bill management app has been unveiled at Business Showcase South West in Bristol. EnergyBillKill is the only API-driven commercial energy switching app available to the market.

Created in response to the rising cost of energy in the UK, EnergyBillKill combines the latest technology with decades of experience to provide the quickest and easiest energy switches for business owners and managers.

The app will get the most affordable rates from suppliers and slash the broker fees by 50% or more, giving savings of up to 30%. Businesses can compare prices, and decrease their energy bills with minimal hassle and minimal 3rd party costs.

EnergyBillKill is already available on the App Store and the Android Shop and is free to download. And it aims “to deliver some of the cheapest business gas and electricity prices in the UK.” It will be first focused on business management, giving out gas and electricity prices directly from energy firms. They claim they can cut fat broker commissions by 2 to 3 times, which means business owners and managers get to keep more hard earned cash.

EnergyBillKill is already available on the App Store and the Android Shop and is free to download

Energy Bill Kill Co-Founder Michael Rossman explains the motivation behind creating the app: “It’s widely acknowledged that the UK’s major energy suppliers overcharge their loyal customers and as energy prices continue to rise, this is becoming an even more critical issue.

“Our aim is simple: be transparent, fair and simple, taking away the hassle of switching and delivering the lowest energy prices to small businesses in the UK in just a few clicks.”

Business Showcase South West is an annual event that attracts around 220 of the most promising brands, SMEs and entrepreneurs from in and around Bristol.

“Bristol is a dynamic and exciting City with a vibrant community of entrepreneurs, making it the ideal place to launch EnergyBillKill. We look forward to delivering big savings and efficiencies to our customers here and across the UK,” adds Co-Founder Aidan Brady.

Simplifying the Process of Filing Your Tax Return

When you are an employee, your employer pays your taxes out of your earnings before they even reach you. You also don’t have to file a tax return, as this is also taken care of for you. So, it’s not all too surprising that the majority of first time business owners can feel a little lost when it comes to the end of the fiscal year and they are left to complete their tax returns themselves for the first time. But not to worry. While the forms may seem confusing at first, there are various steps that you can take to simplify the process. Here are just a few steps that you will need to take to get you started in the right direction.

Consider Professional Help

The best way to simplify the process of filing your tax return is to hire the help of a professional accountant. You do not generally need to employ this individual year-round. Instead, you can pay them to complete a one-off return. Sure, it may come at a cost. But if you are extremely busy, it’s an investment worth making. You can also rest peacefully knowing that your return will be completed to perfection without errors or mistakes.

Deduct Expenses

Don’t make the mistake of paying for business related expenses out of your own pocket. There are various purchases that you can deduct as expenses. These are referred to as “tax deductions” or “tax deductible” investments or purchases. The infographic from Triplog below highlights just a few common tax deductions added to small businesses’ tax returns!

What to do Right After a Tampa Car Accident?

In 2016, 27,660 car accidents occurred in Hillsborough county alone, according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. These accidents resulted in 21,380 injuries and 228 fatalities. Shockingly, all of these statistics represent an increase from the previous year. Car accidents rose 6.52% from 25,967. Car accident fatalities rose 20% from 190, and the number of injuries due to car crashes increased by 7.5% from 19,889 in 2015.

One thing is overwhelmingly apparent from reviewing these figures. Tampa is a dangerous place to drive, and the city is becoming more dangerous every year. So, if you are involved in a car accident in the Bay Area, there are a few things you should always do.

1. Call the Police

Always contact the police when you are involved in a car accident, even a minor one. The police report will give you valuable information about the other driver such as their insurance information, name, etc. Moreover, contacting the police allows you to document how the accident occurred from your point of view and the viewpoint of any witnesses.

2. Take Pictures of the Accident Scene

Once you leave the scene of an accident, you can never get certain information back such as road conditions, the amount of traffic, etc. Therefore, you should photograph your surroundings, your vehicle, the other driver’s vehicle, and any other factors that are relevant to the accident.

Tampa is a dangerous place to drive, and the city is becoming more dangerous every year. So, if you are involved in a car accident in the Bay Area, there are a few things you should always do

3. Get Evaluated by a Doctor

Herniated disks, whiplash, and back injuries incurred as a result of being involved in a car accident can all share a common characteristic. These ailments and others can have “delayed symptoms,” which simply means that you may not immediately know or feel the full extent of your injuries immediately after the accident. Due to this fact, you should always get evaluated by a doctor after being involved in a car accident.

4. Contact an Attorney

Adjusters employed by insurance carriers are tasked with evaluating claims in the most cost effective manner possible. To accomplish this task, their goal is to minimize the amount of money this insurance carrier will have to pay in connection with any accident by any means possible, even if it is at your expense.

As such, you should always contact a car accident lawyer in Tampa, FL, prior to speaking with either your insurance company or the other driver’s insurance company, because every statement you make will be analyzed, screwtinized, and can be used as evidence against you, which is why you need to have a thorough understanding of your legal rights and responsibilities, prior to speaking with an insurance adjuster.

5. Call Your Insurance Company

Once you have consulted with a lawyer, you can contact your insurance carrier to report the claim, but ideally, you want to have this conversation with your attorney on the phone or in the room. Moreover, you should not speak with the other driver’s insurance carrier without an attorney present who will ensure that your legal interests are protected.

How is Fault Determined in a Car Accident?

Automobile insurance can be confusing, especially when regulations and requirements can vary so widely from state to state. What type of insurance is required in the state a person resides in is the starting point in helping to determine who may be at fault in an accident. Compare auto insurance companies to make sure you’re fully covered when an accident occurs and at the lowest rate.

Generally, states are either at-fault states or they are no-fault auto insurance states. Other than in the 12 no-fault states, drivers are responsible for the damage they cause in an automobile accident. These at-fault states include Texas.

In Texas, state law requires drivers to be able to pay for the damage they may be responsible for in an automobile accident through a financial responsibility law. This law requires drivers to prove they are financially responsible before operating a vehicle in the state, most frequently through automobile liability insurance.

The minimum amount of liability insurance a Texas driver must have is $30,000 for each injured person, up to a total of $60,000 per accident, and another $25,000 per accident for property damage. This is often referred to as 30/60/25 coverage.

If you have auto insurance in Texas, it will cover you as you drive through other states and Canada, but not in Mexico where American liability coverage is not recognized. The Texas Department of Insurance has an easy-to-understand “Insurance Made Easy” primer for those wanting to know more.

So, if a driver is responsible for paying for the damage they cause in an at-fault accident, what determines who is at fault?

In Texas, state law requires drivers to be able to pay for the damage they may be responsible for in an automobile accident through a financial responsibility law

Determining Fault

Fault can most often be decided by seeing what each driver should have been doing in any situation and what the evidence and witnesses may suggest they were doing. While this can be really easy in straightforward incidents, it can be much more involved in more complex accidents.

Drivers, for example, may have to share at least a portion of the fault if they did not try to avoid an accident. They may be found at fault if the vehicle they were driving was not determined safe to operate or if they were impaired in any way. Driver distraction can also be a cause of fault.

Frequently an accident report can help determine fault, especially if a citation was issued in the accident. If a driver is cited for excessive speed or reckless operation, they are likely going to be found at fault in a resulting accident. Drivers turning left into traffic will often be cited in an accident because oncoming traffic generally has the right-of-way.

Another common accident is a rear-end collision. While there is a perception that the following driver will always be found at fault in a rear-end collision, that’s not necessarily the case. If the lead driver backs into the following vehicle, for example, or if it can be proven that the lead car’s brake lights weren’t working properly, the lead driver can also be found at fault. This is why “brake-checking” is such a dangerous practice. It is illegal to intentionally cause an accident, and while the following car may be cited for not maintaining clear distance, the lead driver may share in the fault if it is determined that they intentionally caused the accident.

When a driver is found to be at fault for an accident, it can have serious legal and financial ramifications. Points may be added to a driving record, increasing insurance rates. The insurance company will be responsible for paying the costs associated with the incident. If there is not enough coverage, the driver may be sued individually to recover additional costs. A history of at-fault accidents can lead to license suspension and lay a pattern of recklessness that can work against a driver in any future incidents.

Drivers have a responsibility to drive vehicles that are safe and have insurance coverage and to avoid accidents when possible. They should avoid aggressive driving, driving while distracted, and, of course, should never drive while impaired. This will minimize your exposure as the at-fault driver.

If you’ve been injured in a car accident that was caused by someone’s negligence, contact an experienced car accident lawyer for a consultation.

How to Avoid Common Online Scams
How to Avoid Common Online Scams

The internet brings the world together. You can now contact your relative that lives halfway across the planet. However, everything can be a double-edged weapon. Some people with malicious intentions can reach you across the globe just as easily. To help you protect yourself, and your money, we have two general tips that will help you.

If It Is Too Good To Be True, Then It Is Fake

This is a very common indicator whenever you surf the web, or when you receive an e-mail. A distant relative wants to send you a crate of gold worth $10,000,000? It’s a scam. Browsing through Amazon and find this amazing deal from a fresh seller? Avoid it. You will run into it very often. If you see such a tempting offer just randomly pops up in front of you, avoid it like the plague. Curiosity kills the cat, and it might as well kill your remaining balance in your bank account.

For example, while you are browsing the web for a cryptocurrency trading platform, a message pops up saying “If you are looking for the best cryptocurrency trading platform, click here!” Whatever website it may lead you to, you can be assured that it is not what you are looking for. As such, be sure to do your research and read the reviews. There, you will find everything that you need to know about the trade, and you can get started right away! Binary Options Expert is a legitimate cryptocurrency trading platform that strives to facilitate your crypto-based businesses.

Be Careful With Public Wi-Fi

When you go to a coffee place, you might instantly log into the local public Wi-Fi and do your business. At first, it seems that every page you logged into is legitimate. Unfortunately, you run the risk of having your information stolen. Some people create a fake Wi-Fi hotspot and create fake websites that look exactly like the legitimate websites. Then, they mine your computer for your personal information. You can avoid it by simply not use public Wi-Fi unless you are absolutely sure that it is legitimate. Another thing you might want to consider is to not make any online purchase when you are connected to a free public Wi-Fi.

For example, you were using the public Wi-Fi to browse the internet in a search for the best home mortgage. Then, you stumble upon this legitimate-looking website. You entered your information and everything only to find that you balance is empty the next day. It is not the website’s fault. Someone managed to grab your credit card information and stole all your money. Instead, we suggest you browse from a trusted Wi-Fi hotspot instead.

Avoid Mortgage Scams

Hidden fees, re-payment penalties, balloon payments, etc. Just a few areas you need to be aware of when taking out a mortgage. When selecting a provider online, ensure you read through reviews and find out if the mortgage provider is backed, complies with, and approved from relevant government schemes.

If you are looking for a new home, why not try out Your Mortgage Solutions – great if you are from England and are located within the West Midlands? They are dedicated to helping their customers in choosing a safe and secure mortgage at the best price. They are experienced in the industry, so you can be sure that you will get the best deal at your budget! They are your mortgage solutions.

Also, be aware, that when you send a payment to your solicitor for a home, which can be a large sum of money, ensure it is going to the right party. For example, some unlucky induvials have lost fortunes due to email scammers, you can read about such a horror story here: ‘We lost £120,000 in an email scam but the banks won’t help get it back’.

Handy Man and Tools for Hire

Need a new roof fitting? Perhaps you wish to hire Specialists in Environmental & Borehole Drilling. Maybe a new boiler installed. How about a new patio? You get the idea, many head over to the internet to find out who they can hire to do the needed task. Sadly, it’s entirely possible to end up with someone who claims to have the necessary experience and skills, but actually does not. Thankfully there are websites and platforms online that allow you to see reviews before hiring the perfect candidate, which are vetted and confirmed. One such site is Ratedpeople.com.

In this article, we have explored a small amount of areas you should apply caution when using the internet. Always be careful and use the internet wisely.

5 Quick Tips When Filling Out Your First LLC Form

If you’re trying to start an LLC, then one of the first things you have to do is fill out your paperwork. However, if you’re new to this process, it can seem a little overwhelming at first. Fortunately, you can rely on www.govdocfiling.com to help you through filling out your LLC forms, ensuring that you don’t make any mistakes. Here are some tips:

#1 Pay Attention to State Requirements

LLCs are not recognized federally. This means that you have to rely on the state to dictate all of the various rules and regulations, which can change based on the local government.

Before you fill out your forms, be sure that you understand any limitations, as well as what is entailed by forming an LLC. This information is outlined when creating the LLC operating agreement, so make sure to review this document carefully.

#2 Know Who’s Entering Into the LLC

One of the fundamental aspects of an LLC is that it is bonded to the members of the company. That means that unlike a corporation, if a founding member leaves for any reason, the LLC has to dissolve. When filling out your forms, you need to know who’s in and who’s out.

#3 Check Your Name

When naming your company, you have to be sure that it doesn’t conflict with any other LLCs listed in your state. You should do this before filling out all of your documents so that you don’t have to go back and redo them.

#4 Get an EIN at the Same Time

Unless you are forming an LLC as an individual (some states have stricter laws about this by the way), you have to get an employer ID number to do business. To make things easier for everyone, do this at the same time.

#5 Fill Out All Peripheral Business Paperwork

Because documentation is all about accuracy and repetition, it can help to get everything squared away at the same time so that you don’t have to come back to it later. Business licenses, permits, and any other legal documents should be filled out now to keep everything streamlined.

In the end, forming an LLC is a fantastic way to get your business off the ground, but be sure that you’re doing it correctly, or it could hurt you in the end.
