How To Keep Your Team Safe When Working On A Construction Site

If you have a team and you have a huge construction project coming up then you will know more than anyone how important it is for you to keep them safe. You will also understand how important it is for you to give them the support they need to get the job done properly as well, but this is easier said than done. If you have deadlines to meet, then this can put pressure on the whole situation and it can lead to costly mistakes being made.

Reward Those who Stay Safe

It’s very important that you reward those who exercise caution when working on your site. It’s also important that you encourage them to show a good attitude when on the site as well. Don’t be afraid to give your team a pat on the back when you see them being safe, and let them know that you notice their behaviour and the work they are putting in. You never know, it may even encourage other employees to follow in their footsteps as well. If you do not reward your team when they are doing good then you can’t ever hope to make a positive change for the future. Even the best fall protection experts will tell you that if you do not use your equipment properly then it won’t provide you with as much protection.

Don’t Punish Your Team

When you are working on a site, delays will happen. You may feel the need to get angry at your team because they did not work as hard as they could have done and this is completely understandable. The main thing that you have to remember here is that if you push your team too hard then this will encourage them to cut corners in the future and this is the last thing that you need. This is how mistakes happen and you may even find that people violate the safety protocol just to try and meet deadlines. At the end of the day, safety should always be more important than meeting deadlines.

Set an Example

You’re the boss, and your team know it. For this reason, you need to try and set a good example. If you set a bad example, then your team will follow this. You need to make sure that your team are constantly trying to better themselves and you also need to make sure that they have the same drive that you do as well. If they don’t then you may need to look at the way that you behave. For example, if you don’t use safety equipment then you can’t expect your team to use it either, and if you come into work demotivated and angry then your team will follow suit. To avoid this, make sure that you are following the same regulations that you expect of the people who you work with, as this can make a huge difference when you are trying to get a project done and it can also seriously help you to get a better result out of your build.
